Speaking with Selective Mutism Success

This morning was Hannah’s progress assembly. Hannah had a speaking part and yesterday she proudly came home with her lines that she needed to learn which didn’t take her long to memorize.

The only problem is that Hannah has got selective mutism, which means she very rarely speaks in public. In fact she finds it hard talking to her grandparents. Last year she only spoke to then 3 times.

So this morning walking to school she clutched her lines in her hands refusing to put them in her bag. Half way to school i noticed that she wasn’t carrying her lines… she had lost them. I was going to retrace our steps but didn’t know where she had dropped them when Hannah said, “It’s alright i know them”.

We arrived at school and she went into her classroom while we took our seats in the hall. Everyone had a part to play. When it was Hannah’s turn she stood up and she read out her part.

I must have had the biggest smile on my face. I couldn’t believe she had done it. I even had a few tears.

This time last year Hannah refused to say her part, and now she finally spoke a few words. This school has been so good for her confidence.

I want to cook that

Every Sunday we cook dinner and Mr A’s parents always joins us

Coming up with different things each week can be hard but this sunday is different because Mr A’s mum had been ill and all she could think about was our corned beef pie

When Sam found out what we were having he said he would like to make it as he’s started to take a interest in cooking wanting learn how to make different things instead of just sticking them in the microwave

Here’s Sam making the pie

We cooked it for him as he gets very confused

Everyone really enjoyed it thanks Sam its nice seeing you trying your hand at new things

I’m linking with @oliversmadhouse #magicmoments

You see Sam is autistic and him just wanting to learn to cook is a big moment

Blanket tears

Hannah had earned her duckling 1 swimming badge and I thought I was nice to sew it on her baby blanket

So then we could keep her only baby blanket and swimming badges safe

But how wrong was I hannah saw what I had done today and it caused a meltdown for more then 30 mins

Even j’s girlfriend tried to calm her down with no avail

After a while of her crying and hiding under the table I managed to get her to sit on my knee and listen to what I had to say

I managed to turn it around by making her laugh and tell her that the blanket would be kept forever and that it was her friend and that it was still soft

So we made it into a game and now she’s going around laughing with her blanket

So now I’m able to sew even more badges on 🙂

Turned out good in the end

Mummy and daughter day

Wasn’t looking forward to today as I had to go shopping on my own with my daughter

Some might think this is great

but my daughters is undergoing tests for autism and going out with her can be really hard as we have to take her pushchair everywhere and she tends to run off a lot

So I was very worried and nerves

But I have to say we had a really great time

First we went for dinner well I say dinner I had dinner and my daughter had bag of crisps

Next we went for a drink she had to come with me to the counter

normally she would go and play while her dad watched her and the pushchair but today I was on my own so she picked her own drink and helped get the sugar for my coffee

Then she ran off to the play area but that was ok as I was not far behind her

she had a nice time playing with the other children and had a ride on Clifford after she start to climb on top of it 🙂 got her down by now she’s asking to go so hurried and finished my coffee

Now it’s time to start on the shopping

We had to get some new headphones for my son so we went to Argos which as i’m on my own can be hard as she tends to go and look at the toys

Today was no different she still look at the toys but when I shouted her name she came back which makes a change

One shop down

Next to get some chicken for tea and to another shop that causes trouble Iceland

When we go in this shop she has to open every freezer and as you can imagine they have a lot 🙂

But not today yes she touched every freezer but we had a race to see who could get to the top of the shop first and she won

She got the chicken for me and of to the till things where going so well

Today in town they was giving away balloons and Hannah loves balloons so tied one to the pushchair and this kept her busy she sat there playing with it 🙂

She had been that good today I brought her a cake for being so good

I even got her to walk up the hill which her dad would push her up but I’m not strong enough to do thankfully the balloon kept her busy and we managed to get to the top woohoo 🙂

Time for her to go back in the pushchair happily playing with the balloon finally made it back home without to many problems

And this is the result of the little walking she’s done

When good days turn bad

Had a really nice day planned

We was going to go to the museum again today

hannah been asking all week to go she loves it there because they have a sand pit she loves to play in

But not today

Today the sand pit area was closed as they were changing things around she didn’t take this very well

that’s meltdown 1 calmed her down eventually with some chocolate and tried to enjoy rest of the visit but Hannah kept going on about the sand pit

Then we went to the train station and she waved goodbye to the train and the driver waved and even tooted the train whistle for her she loved that

We went through the subway to get to the other side and Hannah decided to walk which makes a change but she had her own ideas unbeknown to me

But that’s where it all went wrong again she ran off this time up the other side and continued towards the platform I shouted stop but she continued to run off laughing had to run after her and manage to grab her before she reached the top

Told her that was very dangerous and why didn’t she listen to me when i said stop she said she wanted to see more trains meltdown 2

Pleased to be home now
